  -   Kalady is a famous pilgrim center in Kerala, India.
  -   Initially a small village situated in the interiors of Cochin, it is now considered a place for spiritual enlightenment.
  -   Kalady in Kerala, is renowned as the birth place of Adi Sankaracharya, who is seen as a great Indian philosopher of the eighth Century, and also gave birth to the Advaita philosophy. Born in 788 Adi Sankaracharya was the sole son of a Brahmin couple in Kerela.

Places to visit at Kalady, Kerala:

  -   You can visit the two shrines founded in memory of Adi Sankaracharya. The first shrine is dedicated to him as Dakshinamoorthi and the second shrine is that of the goddess Sharada. Both the shrines in Kalady, Kerala are maintained by Sringeri Mutt.
  -   You can also visit the Sringeri Mutt which is said to be situated at the spot where Sankaracharya's house was initially located.
  -   Pay your homage to Adi Sankaracharya's mother Aryamba, as you visit the place where she was cremated.
  -   Kalady, Kerala also consists of a Crocodile Ghat, it is actually a bathing ghat outside the temple but has a mythical story behind it.
  -   There is a Shri Krishna temple near the mutt, and it is considered to be Adi Sankaracharya's family temple.
  -   You must also visit the (nine-storeyed) Sri Adi Sankara Keerthi Sthamba Mandapa, which is situated forty five meters from the Mutt.

How to go to Kalady in Kerala?

You can reach Kalady, Kerala by rail, road or airways. Take a plane to Kalady and you will reach the Nedumbassery Airport which is about six kilometers from Kalady. You can also board a train and get down at the Angamali station which is situated 10 kilometers from Kalady, or the Aluva station another 23 kilometers from Kalady. Kalady is also well connected by roads and so easily accessible through all the means of transportation.
