Cochin is a vibrant city, full of love and life. There are not many pubs available
anywhere in Kerala including Kochi. All the major hotels do have their own bars
for the convenience of their customers. The elite ambience of the bar adds to
the mood further. There are little shops where one can taste 'toddy´, the
locally brewed alcohol from coconut tree. It's a delicious drink but is better
to enlist local help from trusted friends before venturing into it!
The hotels that offer bars to the benefit of their customers are:-
- Le Meridian
- Avenue Regent
- Casino Hotel
- Grand Hotel
- Hotel International
- International
- Sealord
- Taj Malabar Hotel
- Trident Hotel
The choices are limited as far as Cochin is concerned, unless you belong to
one of the umpteen 'clubs' that are basically private drinking joints. There
are no clubs available here in the western meaning of the word where tourists
can visit and hang - out and have fun. The only clubs that are there in Cochin
are the exclusive "member only" clubs like The Lotus Club and The
Ramavarma Club which can only be visited as a guest of an existing member only.
If you are a visitor in Cochin, and want to party with your family and friends,
you should try renting a private boat from the Sealord Jetty and have a private
party on board. You can get one of the outdoor caterers to provide the food
and the service - they will arrange a fairly respectable buffet on board, and
also help out with the bar.
Seagull, in old Cochin used to be a great place for drinking out. Strictly
guys only, though. There is also a small bar at ATS Wellington opposite the
old airport. Very well stocked bar, and well furnished, too. You could go there
with family, but it's a bit on the expensive side. Keeping pace with the city's
modern makeover in food and drink, in stores and marts, in art and music, Loungevity
bar is in step with Kochi's changing social meter.
If you want to taste the country liquor, you could try out the umpteen places
around Aroor. Again, rent a boat from Sealord Jetty and tell the boatman that
you want Kallu. He'll take you to all the right places. A couple of shops in
Aroor are good for family outings. You can treat your self with first-class fresh
seafood out here.
There are not many choices when it comes to Pubs in Cochin. If you are too
keen on going to a Pub, you can go to Formula 1, Cochin. It is the First pub
in Cochin and it charges just Rs.150 on weekdays and Rs.200 on weekends. It
has good sound system and music that is bound to keep you feeling high and delighted.
The nightlife in Cochin has lots to offer to its visitors, you must just know
the right place to go, and once you are there, there is nothing stopping you,
drink and dance and make merry to your heart's content!
