Darjeeling, the Queen of Hill Stations, is set in the Siwaliks or the Lower Himalayas capped by the snow covered Kanchenjunga Peak and Mount Everest, highest peak in the world. The location of Darjeeling is quite ideal and easily accessible by air, road and rails. Bagdogra is the airport served well with direct flight connection from Delhi, Kolkata (Calcutta) and Guwahati. Darjeeling is just 94 to 96 km away from the Bagdogra Airport and is reachable by car or cab available from Siliguri Bus Junction area. If you plan to travel by train then the nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP). Head on towards Siliguri Bus Stand by auto or rickshaw. Take a taxi, bus or trekker jeep services from there which takes you to Darjeeling after an 88 km ascent.
The most exciting way to reach Darjeeling is through Kolkata by the Darjeeling Mail which is connected by a romantic Toy Train Ride emanating from New Jalpaiguri. The Toy Train huffs and puffs its way through the rugged relief giving a good view of the sky-touching pine trees and other floras that give an immensely joyful and exciting ride. It's a good ten to twelve hours journey.
Darjeeling is well connected by road to Sikkim, Nepal, Bhutan and its neighboring hills. Siliguri provides the major connection to all major cities. From Kolkata there is a regular bus service provided by the North Bengal Surface Transport Corporation (NBSTC) at a frequency of every 30 minutes.
