The Buxa Tiger Project near Darjeeling is one of the newest projects on tiger in India. The Buxa Tiger Reserve was named after the nearby Buxa Fort and was established during the early 1980s. Later, in the year 1992, the Buxa Tiger Project was given the status of a National Park.

The Buxa Tiger Project is a part of the Alipurduar subdivision of the Jalpaiguri District. It is a part of the northern region of the state of West Bengal in India. Covering an area of 759 square kilometers, the Buxa Tiger Project is nestled in the lap of the Sinchula Range. The nearest airport is the Bagdogra Airport which is around 210 kilometers away. The New Jalpaiguri railway station is the nearest train station which is located at a driving distance from the Buxa Tiger Project in the Dooars Valley . The National Highway 31 connects this place with the rest of the country.

The Buxa Tiger Reserve remains open to the tourists from mid-September to mid-June. If you want to spot the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, then April to May is the best time to visit this place.

Apart from the Royal Bengal Tiger, Buxa Tiger Project is home to leopards and various species of cats and squirrels as well. You can also see the spotted deer, barking deer and a number of elephants.
