The Sakya Monastery is located approximately eight kilometers from Darjeeling . This mystic building of the Sakya Monastery is in itself a wonderful sight and a feast to the eyes. The building of the Sakya Monastery in Ghoom is colorful and inviting. As the big doors of the Sakya Monastery creak open into a peaceful hall inside, you will find yourself engulfed by a strange silence and immense spirituality. The halls are big with high ceilings and colorful Buddhist hangings depicting Buddhist religion and culture. The whole surrounding is so peaceful and enchanting that you will feel yourself fixed inside the Sakya Monastery . The main prayer hall of this monastery is big enough to accommodate about 60 monks. The Sakya Monastery in Ghoom takes it start from the Sakya-pa School. This school is one of the most famous schools of Buddhism. The school follows the teachings of the Buddhist teacher, Sakya Trizin. The original monastery was started somewhere around 1915. Sakya Trizin shifted to India in the year 1959 and started this Sakya Monastery near Darjeeling in the year 1960. The Sakya Monastery is a place that is a must to visit by the tourists to this part of the country.
