The Independence Day Celebrations in Delhi begins with the Prime Minister of India addressing the nation from the top of the Red Fort. The address is followed by a march past of the police and the armed forces.
The Prime Minister in his speech highlights the achievement of the government in the past few years and also addresses the various important issues that are of great concern to the country. The speech also contains a few words of tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their life to gift the Indians with the long carved independence. The day is a national holiday for the Indians.

there is the custom of flying kites on this special day. As you look high in
the sky you can notice the colorful kites flying high in the sky. On this day
all the government and also the non- government offices are lit up. Flags are
hoisted in almost all the offices, schools and colleges. The flag hoisting is
followed by a number of cultural programmes that reminds one of the hardships
that our leaders had to face.
