The Surajkund Crafts Mela has now adopted a national character and each year the handicrafts of one particular state form the highlight of the fair.
At the Surajkund Crafts Mela, Delhi painters display vivid paintings on various bases such as canvass, cloth, stone and wooden carvings, cane furniture and wall hangings. Traditional motifs lend themes to these paintings. Pots and urns, cane furniture and wall hangings galore, the fair is the ideal place to pick up souvenirs and trinkets for your friends and relatives. A number of food stalls are also set up. So dig into the authentic cuisine of every state in Indian. Colorful cultural renditions and song- dance programs keep the shoppers entertained.
The Surajkund Crafts Mela is held from February 1st to the February 15th every
year and special busses are commissioned from Delhi to take visitors to the
grounds every year. Thatched huts are set up and the settings attract a lot
of global interest due to the high stress on the cultural aspect of India showcased
here. Each year the number of stalls is growing and a number of items such as
paper mache crafts, lac and glass works and traditional leather products are
joining the products sold here.
