The British Magazine, Delhi is situated in the middle of the Lothian Road. The exact position is in front of the General Post Office, Old Delhi. The building is the remains of the original building which used to store the British arms and ammunitions. 11th May 1857, saw the destruction of the building when the first war of Indian Independence took place. The history of the building says that during the war the Indian troops tried to use the arms of the British stored in the British Magazine, Delhi. Lieutenant Willoughby tried to prevent the Indian troops from doing so and in this process the building was almost ruined. The British Magazine, Delhi has semi octagonal projections which has two rooms on both the sides. The arches and the fortes are the best attraction of the building. These arches can be located on the semi octagonal projections. The gateways of the building has small canon located on it. The building is made up of Lakhori bricks. The north gate of the British Magazine, Delhi has a marble tablet which has the names of the soldiers imprinted. The soldiers are those who defended the magazine from the enemy troop. Now, the present day building also has the names of the Indian soldiers. The tourists can visit the British Magazine, Delhi any day according to their own wish. The best time to visit this place is 10am in the morning till 5pm in the evening. There are no charges as such to enter the British Magazine, Delhi. British Magazine, Delhi is located near the Kashmiri Gate so, it is very convenient for the tourists to reach the place. They can either avail the local buses, taxies or auto rickshaws. The Kashmiri Gate railway station is located very near to the building. Tourists can visit this place and enjoy the pleasure of this historical sight. The imprints on the marble plaque should be carefully read because it is near the road and heavy delhi traffic moves there.
