Central Baptist Church Delhi

One of the oldest churches in Delhi, Central Baptist Church embodies the best of European architecture at the time of its construction in 1814. The Church’s southern entrance has a porch which is flanked by squat round columns; the other two entrances have high verandas with crescent shaped openings.

Central Baptist Church was built on land purchased by the Baptist Missionary Society (BMS), London. The walls of the Church now bear the memorial tablets of those who have dedicated their lives in serving the Church. The Church was built as a part of the church’s larger plans of propagating Christianity.

Central Baptist Church stands well preserved with still extant original motifs and carvings. The only changes that can be seen on the Church are on the roof which has been renovated with stone and iron-beams.

The best time to visit Central Baptist Church is at the commencement of its annual events. The occasion is marked by great celebrations with many people coming forward to partake of the fun event. The merrymaking comprises a lot of cultural shows and social gathering. Apart from the much awaited Annual Event, Central Baptist Church also hosts many other programmes and gatherings at various times of the year.

Central Baptist Church is regarded as an important heritage building and it now houses a popular primary school in its precincts.

The nearest Railway Station to Central Baptist Church is Delhi Main while the nearest Railway Station is Old Delhi Railway Station. The Church is open only on Sunday but an earnest request to the caretaker does not usually go waste.
