The historical evidences show that the Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi was built after Hamida Banu Begum, Humayun’s widow gave orders. The work for the same started in the year 1562. The time to build the tomb was eight long years. The style of the garden was exclusive as said earlier. The style is called the Chahr Bagh Garden Style. The tomb is presently an inspiration for the extravagant hotels of India.
After entering the double storied gateway the high walls of the building are visible. The walls are all surrounded by four gigantic squares and waterways. These squares are then divided into smaller squares. This is what we call the Chahr Bagh Garden Style.
The Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi is built in red sandstone but the Mughals were quiet stylish. To provide the building with some variation they used yellow and black sandstones also. The variation of this color is somewhat of a delight to the eyes of the tourists or visitor. The Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi has got a number of cells with arched openings.
Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi has a tomb within tomb concept. The black and the yellow marble tombs of Humayun’s wife and barbar are worth mention. The tomb became a place for refuge for Emperor Bahadur Shah II, the last Mughal emperor.
Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi was added to the UNESCO’s World Heritage List in the year 1993. The World Heritage program is considered to conserve places of cultural and historical importance. Thus, the tomb has got an international status which draws more visitors from foreign countries along with the local visitors.
