The hospital was built on the Jain principle of showing compassion and care to all kinds of living beings specially animals and birds.
The best thing about this hospital is that there are separate wards for different types of birds like sparrows, parrots, domestic fowls and pigeons. To top it all there is a research laboratory that works on research and development and there is even an intensive care unit for serious patients. The birds which come in are usually injured by fowlers or by the blades of fans or otherwise.
The hospital takes in about sixty birds per day and they are properly cleaned, treated and given proper food which allows them to recover at a rapid pace. The birds once declared fit are released on Saturdays. The hospital has a discriminatory attitude towards birds that eat flesh and non vegetarian stuff and the hospital authorities are reluctant to treat them.
The hospital is little more accommodating towards squirrels as they don’t harm birds; the birds are kept on the terrace as visitors are encouraged to see them. People also come in to check on the health of their respective patients just as they would do in any normal hospital. One thing which visitors are expected to do is donate some amount as the hospital is a charitable institution that runs on donation.
