This is shrine which is dedicated to the Guri Nanak and his follower a fakir who used to live on the banks of the river Yamuna during the reign of Sultan Sikander Lodhi. The fakir used to ferry people across the river Yamuna free of cost and in the process wanted to attain salvation. The fakir also used to spend most of his time praying and meditating and in this attempt he lost weight like anything and was some what tauntingly refereed to as the Persian lover Majnu who was an embodiment of love.
Majnu did finally attain salvation after meeting Guru Nanak and he became a big disciple of Guru Nanak after that. The place has since been frequented by a large number of jogis, saints, fakirs including the likes of Guru Har Gobind who was invited by the Emperor to preach till he got suspicious of the Guru and he imprisoned him in the Gwalior fort.
After Guru Govind Singh was released he spent quite some time at the Majnu ka Tila and the importance the Tila increased manifolds and it was accorded the status of a Gurudwara. The small structure that had existed was converted to a large white marble structure in the eighties and there are plans to convert the entire structure with golden leaf.
