The history of the monument says that the first storey of the Qutub Minar, Delhi was constructed by Qutub-ud-Din thereafter three more storeys were added by Iltutmish. The excellence of the monument is that it has verandas connected with each storey and the architecture is in the style of a honeycomb. The Qutub Minar, Delhi was further renovated by Feroz Shah Tuglaq and and Sikander Lodi. The minar was built in order to perform azaan.
The ornamentation of the Qutub Minar, Delhi is Islamic in character. There are several inscriptions of Arabic and Nagari to depict the history of the Qutub. The minar survived several natural disasters. A major earthquake took place in the year 1803 which leads to the destruction of the tower.
The Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque was built by the Qutub-ud-din Aibak in 1198. The mosque is a prime attraction in the premises of the Qutub Minar. The tomb of Iltutmish and the Alai Darwaza are also great examples of Indo-Islamic architecture during that period. The Alai Darwaza is considered to be the first building which incorporated the ornamentation of the Indo-Islamic architecture.
The buildings within the Qutub complex are depicted in the World Heritage Sites. The Qutub Minar Delhi is located in Mehrauli, 16 kilometers from the Connaught Place. The tourists can take local buses to reach the place. The entry fee for the Indian nationals is Rs 10 and for the foreigners it is Rs 25. This Indian Heritage is a must see for the locals and also the foreigners.
