Introduction

Amongst all the games that are played on an international basis, Tennis so far has been the most famous game in the world scenario. This game has spread all over the world and players from all over the world participate in the various competitions, which are being held throughout the year. In this game of tennis the players use stringed racquet to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over a net into the opponent's court. This game of tennis originated in the ancient Greece. It derives its origin from the Greek game of Sphairistike. Tennis in some places is called as lawn tennis. So as to distinguish it from the real tennis or the royal tennis, which was an older form of the game that originated in France. Tennis in India has also gained a lot of important in the past few years. In the world of tennis India is represented by the world famous duo of Mahesh Bhupati and Leander Paes.

With regards to the evolution of Tennis in India, in the earlier years was not as successful as it later on became. In India lawn tennis was popular amongst the Indian in the urban areas. Though India's fortune in the case of the singles in the grand slams has been very bad still it has proved its metal in the doubles. In the field of tennis in India this land has given many legendary players. In the earlier stage of the tennis in India Ramanathan Krishnan and then Ramesh Krishnan leaded the game and represented India in most of the games. Then came the famous duo of Mahesh Bhupati and Leander Paes who changed the face of tennis in India. Both of them had won many Grand Slam titles for India. The duo geared the position of India to new heights and also tried their level best to maintain. Though they were not so much successful in the category of singles but they created havoc when they both stepped into the court. After them now the stars of Sania Mirza shone and she became the first woman in India to gain so much fame.
