Goa has a total coastline of 125 km and that makes people believe that it is a long big beach however illusionary it is. Out of 125 km of coastline the beaches of Goa cover not less than 83 km. There are 40 lovely beaches in Goa. Most of them are pollution free. However, all the beaches are not safe for swimmers due to under currents. The most developed beach segment is the Calangute - Baga - Anjuna belt in the Bardesh subdivision north of Panaji. Beauty of Anjuna Beach The Village of Anjuna is a five square mile enclosure nestling between the Arabian Sea and the Hill. Anjuna Beach is known for it palms fringed edges , soft sands and natural beauty. It was discovered by the hippies in 1961. This areas is known as the Jewel of Anjuna and called “Orzan”. Anjuna beach is located about 20 km away from Panaji and is situated in Bardez taluka. Anjuna beach stretches 30km along the west coast of Goa. Accommodation is available in the local houses. There are some resorts and guest houses at the main Starco’s crossroads. Bathing is safer than, at most of the nearby resorts, too, especially at the more peaceful southern end, where a rocky headland keeps the sea calm. Places Of Interest In Anjuna Beach There are many small outlets that serve wonderful sea food and home made food. Most are simple semi open aired, palm leafed huts, which specializes in fish and western food. Adjacent to the beach is the Chapro fort. It is a must see fort. The Albuquerque mansion is also an interesting place to visit. The best time to visit the Anjuna beach is between November and March. During Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the beach will be crowded with international and national tourists.
