The state of Goa is located on the western coast of India in the coastal belt known as Konkan. Known as the “Rome of the East”, “tourist Paradise “ and “pearl of the Orient”, Goa has magnificent scenic beauty and architectural splendors of its temples, churches and old houses to offer the tourists, who throng the place very often. Goa has a unique history, rich culture and beautiful and serene scenery to offer. Goa has a large number of villages. Many changes have taken place in the state with tourism and exports. The Goan could be either a Hindu or a Christian or a Muslim although the general impression by using the term Goan is that the person is a Christian. Tourism With Difference Goa offers tourism with difference. The people of Goa are light hearted and are highly hospitable too. One can enjoy the beach tourism, wild life tourism and the temples and monuments tourism. Goa offers cave tourism too. There are caves called “Pandava’s caves”. It is believed that the Pandavas had stayed there during their exile. These caves are encarved between the 5th and the 6th century AD. However, there are opinions that these caves were carved by the Buddhist monks. These caves have 5 compartments among which the middlemost compartment holds the 'Linga', which is till today regarded with great respect. The caves are situated 100m away from Sri Rudreshwar Temple and Arvalem waterfall one of the most picturesque site of the town of Arvalem. There are around six wildlife sanctuaries in Goa. There are beautiful strips of beaches where one can sunbathe to achieve the tan. Forms of Tourism in Goa Panaji is the state capital located on the banks of the Mandovi river and Vasco, Margao, Mapusa and Ponda are the other major towns. Goa is well connected by an international/national airport located at Dabolim near Vasco. An intra-state and inter-state bus network also plays an important role in getting locals and visitors alike in and around Goa. The culture and tradition of Goa are a blend of the east and west . Along with English, which is widely spoken all over, Goa, Konkani and Marathi are the state languages. Portuguese is spoken by the older generation.
