The Portuguese left Goa, but not the style and ambience. The Portuguese were known
for world class architecture. Some architecture still stands in Goa. One such
palatial house from the Portuguese era has been converted into a well known restaurant.
The house was built in 1760 by one of the richest merchants who were a Portuguese.
The house is now taken over by Fransisco Sousa. The name of the restaurant being
Casa Portuguesa, Goa. This elegant colonial house that was built in the
18th century is one of the top restaurants in Goa. To homely as well as the foodie
atmosphere makes one feel at home. Like most of the well known hotels, this one
too lies near the west coast that is near the Baga beach. People visiting have
either choices to dine in the verandah or the garden which is very well set. For
diners the nights under the palm tress in the garden is much more of interest
than the other.

The cuisine that is available is the true Portuguese style of food. The relaxing
atmosphere is relaxed and sophisticated which also speaks about the reign of
the Portuguese. The music that plays is the original Fado music. Again the music
recreates the Portuguese feel. The exact location of this restaurant would be
around the Calangute or in better words Bardez. The chicken Xacutti and supportel
has now made its way to the menu. With changing times, certain changes have
been bought about in the menu but what haven't changed are the unique style
and the homely feel along with the warmth in the merge of Portugal and Goa.
This restaurant is a hit among the tourists and is listed among the best of
the best restaurants in Goa. Old customers still pay a visit to the Casa Portuguesa,
Goa and once someone visits this place, they tend to be the daily customers.
Fransisco himself plays and sings at times. the restaurant is famous in the
whole of India.
