In the foothills of Himalayas, overlooked by the white peaks of Kanchenjunga, Darjeeling, the most beautiful and popular hill station is located. This hill station has been popular since the British established in the mid 19th century. Darjeeling Hill Station, India is located in the north extreme of the state of West Bengal. The toy train coming from Siliguri is that is loved by all children to elders. It takes about six to seven hours to reach Darjeeling hill station and train is comparitively slow so nature seeing is possible. The snow cladded peaks of Kanchenjunga are visible from here. Dhoom Gompa is at about 8 kms from Darjeeling with a beautiful statue of Maitrayie Buddha. At the Happy Valley Estate here are tea from gardens is processed. Kurseong is a very beautiful place full of natural splendor. The Natural History Museum has about 4300 specimens collected and so is worth visiting. There is a ropeway which has become a great tourist attraction. Rungli Rungliot has one of the most celebrated tea gardens in the Darjeeling hill Station, India. Senchal Lake supplies drinking water and is very beautiful. The Zoological Gardens are also worth visiting. Shopping Tea is the main commodity than one can shop at Darjeeling Hill Station, India. Apart from tea there are many shopping malls where you can go shopping. At Chowrasta and Nehru road you can find the shops selling curious and Tibetan carpets, also thangkas, brass statues, religious objects, jewellery, wood carving, woven fabrics, and many other items from Himalayan region. The bronze items and wooden carvings give a great value for your money. The women's cooperative is also a place worth checking out. Reaching Darjeeling The Bagdogra airport is 10kms from Siliguri. You can take a fight for reaching Darjeeling. From the airport you can take a taxi or a bus. Darjeeling has railway station but only the toy trains from Jalpaiguri and New Jalpaiguri comes. There are many trains connecting Jalpaiguri and New Jalpaiguri. The place is also well connected by roads. Calcutta runs state buses for Darjeeling and there are private buses too to reach this hill station.
