The town of Kalimpong Hill station, India was once included in the Sikkim state. Lately in the 19th century the Britishers made Kalimpong a part of West Bengal. This hill station lies between Darjeeling and Sikkim. You can stop at this place while you are on way from Darjeeling towards Sikkim, it being a very pleasant place. The best time for visiting this place is from September to June. In the summers the temperature is about 30 degree Celsius. And the temperature falls down as much 6 degrees Celsius.

Kalimpong Hill Station

Basically Kalimpong is a small town located at the foothills of the West Bengal. The altitude of these hills is about 1250 meters. Kalimpong is mainly famous for its monasteries, its culture, private library for the study of Tibetan and Himalayan languages, cultures, and many more. Kalimpong has Sericulture centre and the orchid nurseries to add the beauty of the hill station. The Himalayan range looks beautiful and is fun visiting them. Kalimpong comes in between while journeying from Darjeeling along the Teesta River is very much fun and none can resist stopping here. The Thonga Gompa or Bhutanese Monastery was established round about 1892. The Tharpa Gompa was established about 1922 belonging to the Yellow hat sect of the Tibetan Buddhism. Near about five kms from Kalimpong, the Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Gompa lies and was established in 1970. The Gompa has its own beauty. It has impressive wall paintings in the prayer hall also there is three-dimension mandala upstairs. The best view of the mountains could be viewed from the Durpin Dara Hill. Kalimpong hill station, India has one of the best orchids also they export flowers to many countries. The Sericulture institute breads silk worms and silk is thus produced in here. The Nature Interpretation center in Kalimpong is working to conserve soil and forests of the area as they have one of the best forests.

Kalimpong offers some great items to purchase. The tapestry bags, purses, copperware, scrolls and paintings are the most popular things for shopping at Kalimpong. In the streets of the Dambar chowk you can find some great shops selling beautiful Tibetan jewellery and some art effects.

Travel

There are many buses that would take you to this beautiful hill station. From Darjeeling it is at 4 hours distance, from Siliguri it is at 3 hours distance, and from Gangtok it is at 4 and half hours distance. There are also shared jeeps available for reaching the place from Darjeeling. There are many flights heading by the Indian Airlines services. Reaching this place has become easy due to easy transport.
