Jaisalmer Fort is the most famous tourist attraction in Jaisalmer. It is a magnificent monument there. The Jaisalmer fort is the second oldest fort in the territories of Rajasthan the first being Chittorgarh. Jaisalmer fort is also famously or grandly called as the "Sonar Quila" or the Golden Fort, Jaisalmer, India. The Bhatti Rajput built this fort in 1156 AD. He was then the chief of Rawal Jaisal.

The Golden Fort, Jaisalmer, India is five-storied. It has balconies and has a wonderful masonry work done which the windows that have been built can notice. The interiors have been built and painted in the most famous and known Rajput styles. Various complexes surround this fort for the army of the king, many temples and various other villages that has kept it preserved since long. There were various merchants' places surrounding the place. These merchants at that time were serving in the courts of Bhatti Rajputs and acquired power and noble status for themselves. Bhatti Rajputs were the ones who founded the Rajasthan state in the 12th century. These merchants also used to build great mansions due to the inspiration from the forts itself. They took special efforts in building these mansions and havelis. They poured in a lot of money and used only those sculptures that had experience and wouldn't ruin their main building by using bad stones. They took special care of that. The best attraction of this fort is the Jain temples that are built in it. They were built between 12th and 15th century.

The carvings on the internal as well as the exterior of the walls of the Golden Fort, Jaisalmer, India are excellent and it depicts the large versatility in the culture in the past. The pathways leading to the royal palace is a steep slope. It is a cobbled pathway. This approach road passes through four of the gates that are famous. These gates are known by the famous names as: Ganesh Pol, Suraj Pol, Hawa Pol and Bhoota Pol. The connecting roads in between these 5 buildings make it more difficult to conquer. The fort is two hundred and fifty feet tall. It is reinforced by a 30 feet high wall made up of yellow sandstone. There are 99 bastions of which 92 were built earlier in between 1633 and 1647. It is called the golden due to the colour that it displays during the sunrise or sunset.
