Introduction

The fort of Gwalior, which is situated in Madhya Pradesh, is one of the most historical monuments that attract people from worldwide. With its glorious history it stands alone on an isolated rock. The Gwalior Fort, India spreads out over an area of 3 square kilometers, which is surrounded by the concrete walls of sandstone. At a particular point of time in the history of India this fort was regarded as the invincible fortress in the whole of North and Central India. Raja Man Singh Tomar built this fort in the 15th century. But the saddest part regarding this fort is that this fort has seen many ups and downs in history. Many rulers ruled this fort and time and again it was handed over to another ruler.

The Fort

As this fort passed on to many rulers and dynasties so it led a lot of changes in this fort. This fort passed from the Tomars to the Mughals, then to the Marathas and then the British. Then finally this fort went to the Scindias from the British. The Gwalior Fort, India encompasses three temples, six palaces and numerous water tanks. Amongst these temples the Teli-ka-Mandir is the most famous of all. Actually this temple was built in the Dravidian style shrine and is notable for its generously sculpted exterior. Apart from this the Saas-Bahu temples are also one of the famous temples inside the Gwalior Fort, India. These temples are two pillared temples, which stand next to each other, and one of the temples is larger than other.
Apart from these temples there are also some palaces, which are famous. Some of them are Karan Palace, the Jahangir Mahal, the Shah Jahan Mahal and the Gujri Mahal. All the palaces are in the name of the kings that ruled that fort in that particular time but Guri Mahal is the palace, which is not for the king. Man Singh built this palace for his favorite queen Mrignayni.

There are many forts in the soil of India but there are seldom some who have seen so many rulers within such a short period of time. However, this fort still stands today and speaks out its story to the whole world and still bearing the ravages of time as it was one time called "the Invincible".
