Andhra Pradesh previously had no arrangements made for storing the water in a reservoir, which ultimately flooded the village in Krishna district while Nalgonda and Guntur district had no access to the excess flow of the water. Later on proposals were made to create a dam by the British rulers in the year 1903, which hardly took place. Recently it was decided, the Khosla committee in 1952 under the headship of Jawaharlal Nehru designed out reservoirs that would provides sufficient waters at the drought affected areas as per the first five year plan. It was then the Andhra Pradhesh state government in 1953 instituted the base of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam in the year 10 December 1955.
