Take an expedition from Hyderabad to Srisailam, a small town, placed in the
thickly wooded regions of Nallamalai hills and is positioned along the banks
of River Krishna. Srisailam is surrounded by verdant greenery and lies at a
distance of about 232 km towards the south of Hyderabad. Travel to Srisailam,
which boasts of being a tourist destination that comprises of a forest reserves
along with being a holy pilgrimage destination. Visit the Hindu shrine of Lord
Shiva popularly known as Jyothirlingam which is based in the Kurnool district
of Andhra Pradesh.
The temple is devoted to the Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba where one has
easy access for paying homage to the lord by touching it, which is usually banned
in most of the temples. Srisailam is known for preserving Indian Tigers, which
is based along the Nagarjunasagar Dam on Krishna River. The River Krishna creates
a deep gorge that passes through the Nallamalai Hills, thereby making its way
towards the flourishing forest. The Indian Tigers reserve in Srisailam is spread
to an area of about 3568 sq km extending to a wide area, which includes the
five districts in Andhra Pradesh. Catch up with animal species like spotted
deer, nilgai, blackbuck, panthers, soft-shelled turtles, porcupines, chinkara,
pangolins, leopards and crocodiles in the reserves apart from just tigers. Catch
up with the dry deciduous forests of bamboo groves, which are filled with deer,
palm civet, bonnet macaque, sloth bear, hyena, jungle cat, and pangolin. At
Ethipothala, come across wild crocodiles that has been recently been introduced
in the region near to Srisailam. Don't forget to watch the Srisailam Dam set
along the River Krishna that is extended to about 512 m long, which is bounded
by scenic beauty of elevated cliffs, rocky ridges, flat terrain and impenetrable
forests.
Srisailam Dam is made of 12 crest gates that seize 885ft of water level, which
was planned for generation of hydropower but later was used for water supply
