The very name of Hyderabad brings to mind visions of nawabs, ancient monuments with minarets and the ever famous Hyderabadi Biriyani. Hyderabad however is more than just a city of minarets. It is now slowly emerging as a strong contender for the title of Silicon Valley of India after Bangalore. Hyderabad is now a city where the old and the new are in perfect harmony. The teeming bazaars of old Hyderabad amongst which stands the four hundred years old Charminar and the glitzy malls of new Hyderabad gives you a glimpse of the different facets of Hyderabad. Hyderabad as a city is famous for its pearls, bangles, silks, computer software, handicrafts and above all a unique delightful cuisine. The City of Hyderabad is also a rather festive city. Out of these many festivals one that stands out is the Kite Festival of Hyderabad. The International Kite Festival is organized by the organized by the Andhra Pradesh Tourist Development Corporation. The International Kite Festival 2007 of Hyderabad was organized in the Asa-Bhanu Japan Centre on January 13 as part of the Indo-Japan Friendship Year-2007 celebrations. The kite festival of Hyderabad was a four day affair. This year two of Japan's leading kitists, Japan Kitists Association president Modegi and the association secretary Nakamura had participated in the festival. A kite flying workshop for those interested in learning more about the subject was also conducted during the festival.
