Introduction

Holidays are regarded as the best days of all the days in a year. Everyone awaits a holiday. As it is Sunday is regarded as a holiday worldwide. But apart from this there are also some days, which are holidays irrespective of the fact whether they fall in Sunday, or any of the other days of the week. Further in holidays there can be private holidays as well as public holidays. Private holidays are meant for a particular, region, sect, organization etc. However, public holidays are the days, which are meant for the whole public irrespective of any religion, sect or any other organization etc. Every nation has its list of public holidays. Similarly, there are also certain India Public Holidays. The important feature of the public holidays is that in this day all the government as well as the non-government organization is closed.

List of Holidays

As India is a multicultural as well as a secular nation so there are a lot of festivals that are celebrated in India. India is also widely known as the land of the festivals. The specialty of this nation is that it gives equal weight age to each and every religion and celebrates festival of every religion. These are in total 13 India Public Holidays. Some of them are: -

  -   New Year's Day (1st Jan) - This is a public holiday as this is the first day of the year and is celebrated not only in India but also worldwide.
  -   Id ul Zuha - This is also known as the Feast of Sacrifice and is a Muslim festival.
  -   Republic Day (26th Jan) - On this day India adopted its constitution and became republic.
  -   Mahavir Jayanti (26th Feb) - This festival is celebrated as the birth date of Mahavir. This is a festival of the Jains.
  -   Good Friday - This is a festival of the Christians. It commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
  -   Independence Day (15th August) - It is celebrated as the day of independence of India. In 1947 India got its independence. This day is celebrated all over India.

Similarly there are some other India Public Holidays also. All these public holidays are of great significance. This is the reason why the government of India has declared these days as the Public holidays.
