The Nahargarh Fort, Jaipur was built as a means of bolstering the defense of the city Amer which was once the capital of kachchwahas Rajputs. Some new additions were made to the Nahargarh fort by Sawai Ram Singh II and Sawai Madho Singh II in the 19th century to make the fort much attractive. There is also a legend attached to the Nahargarh Fort, Jaipur. According to this famous legend, the Fort was named after a prince whose name was Nahar Singh. It is said that his spirit used to haunt the fort site mainly to delay the construction work of the fort. After facing many obstacles from the spirit at last a tantrik was called upon. The tantrik was finally able to appease the ghost. The ghost agreed to leave on conditions that the fort should be named in honor of him.
