The Temples in Jaipur reflect the excellence of Indian architecture. Popularly
known as the Laxmi-Narayan Temple, the Birla Temple, draws innumerable devotees
from the four corners of the world. This temple is situated on the southern
part of Jaipur on the foot of Moti Dungari hill. The Birla Temple is built on
the line of Scottish castle. Constructed by India's one of the biggest business
tycoons Birla's, the Birla Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Narayan) and
his consort Lakshmi. Built in 1890, the Govind Devji Temple, Jaipur is dedicated
to Lord Krishna. It attracts devotes of Lord Krishna not only from all the corners
of India but of the world as well. The seven-storied structure was built in
the form of Greek cross at an enormous cost of one crore rupees. This temple
is well maintained by the members of the erstwhile royal family. Raja Sawai
Jai Singh, the founder of Jaipur installed the idol of Govind Deo Ji (Lord Krishna)
which was brought from Vrindavan. From that time Lord Krishna has been worshipped
as the chief deity of the royal family. The Moti Doongri Temple is located in
the hilltop fort is the residence of Rajmata (Queen Mother) Gayatri Devi. In
the past, the place was a small fortress called Shankargarh (Shiva's Foot) but
was later changed by Sawai Man Singh II on the conception of a Scottish castle.
