Bowling in Kolkata

Yes Bowling has fast climbed up the ladder of popularity and has simply caught the pulse of the city people all over the world. Though Bowling is regarded as a sport throughout the world but in India it has still not attained that status. It is still languishing with the tag of ‘Recreational sport’ in India. The sport has been mostly limited to the urban population of the country only. Still as the days are passing the popularity of Bowling is also scaling high. Bowling is predominantly popular in the big cities of India and Kolkata is just one of them. Bowling in Kolkata has gained a great share of popularity in the city and is evident with the presence of a number of Bowling alleys which provides good facilities to the participants.

Bowling is a sort of game which involves the players to roll the ball on a flat surface and score points by knocking down objects kept at the other end of the alley called pins. The traces of the games date back to the Egyptian times after being developed further in the USA.

One of the chief reasons for the sport being non-popular in the country is that it requires very expensive infrastructure along with huge space which is hard to come by in the cities. Also the sport is not known to the general population so they take little interest in it.

The city of Kolkata though has leaped forward and has started providing better facility to the Bowlers. The recently opened ‘Bowler’s Den' near Nicco park has made people take more inertest in the sport.
