The credit for organizing the Industrial Trade Fair in Kolkata rests largely on the shoulders of Mr. Jyoti Basu, the Chief Minister of West Bengal during 1987, when the fair commenced in Kolkata. The State Government of West Bengal and the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BNCCI) jointly organize this fair.
As a mark of appreciation for the support extended by Mr. Jyoti Basu, since
1987 till 1999, this fair has always been held under the auspices of Mr. Basu
