Once a young girl lost her way in the huge crowd of the fair at Mahesh. The famous literary figure of Bengal, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhay who then happened to be the District Magistrate of Bengal himself went out to search for the girl. This particular incident later on served as an inspiration for Bankim Chandra Chattopadhay who wrote his world famous novel Radharani based on this incident. It is popularly believed that Lord Srikrishna himself came here in the disguise of a small boy and ate sweets from the local shop of Mahesh Chandra Datta in Serampore which is a place located in the suburbs of Kolkata.
