The airport was originally known as Dum Dum airport which was later changed to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport keeping in mind the local sentiments and honoring one of Bengal’s as well as India’s favorite son. The airport has two parallel runways, one being the 1-19 L/R and the other being the 1R/19L which is mostly used for takeoffs and landings.
The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport was one of the busiest airports in Asia but with the changing time it has lost a touch of its glamour; though a recent facelift have helped in restoring the pride of the airport. There are three different terminals of the airport: an international terminal, a domestic terminal and a terminal for cargo.
The airport serves a huge number of populations in traveling to different domestic and international destination. An official count measured around 2.827 million people used the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.
