Alipur,Kolkata which constitutes the headquarters of the South 24 Parganas, is within the southern precincts of Kolkata. In post independence period, Alipore became popular among the business elite class of the city and a large number of them like the Pauls, the Birlas, the Goenkas, the Dalmiyas - all added weight to the place.

It was in the middle of the 18th century that the British began exploring their area. The Belvedere Estate was one of the oldest establishments in Alipore. It became the Governor's House then in the reign of Warren Hastings. The British settlers built their huge mansions and bungalows with gardens there and Alipore came to be more popular.

It is surrounded by the Tolly Nullah in the north, Bhowanipore in the east, the Diamond Harbour Road in the west and Budge Budge section of the Sealdah South section railway line in the south.

Accessibility:
The distance from Alipur to the city center is less than 6 kms. From here you will get extensive bus services. The nearest metro station is the Jatindas Park Station, a couple of kolimetres to the east.Behala Airport (domestic) is about 6 kms south west of the region. Alipore is connected by the Majherhat and New Alipore railway stations on the Budge Budge section of Kolkata Suburban Railway.
