Birla Industrial Museum, Kolkata is India's first Science & Technology Museum that was set up in the year 1959, with the aim to mobilize the popularity of science and technology among the masses as per the vision of our first Prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. With Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the then Chief Minister of Bengal as the torchbearer of this mission in Bengal, Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Kolkata was set up on a premises donated by the wealthy house of the Birlas and hence the name.
