The Citizen's Park, Kolkata, is an 11-acre recreational park, which was inaugurated by the Union defence minister Pranab Mukherjee on 8th May, 2005. The Citizen's Park, Kolkata, is an effort of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC), which decided to beautify the landscape of Kolkata, and turn its many open lands into recreational facilities for the public.
There are many wonderful features at the Citizen's Park, Kolkata, which make it an interesting place to visit.
The main attractions of the Citizen's Park, Kolkata, are –
- A dancing fountain, which is operated every evening for the amusement of visitors.
- Many walks for the health-conscious to undertake morning walks in. Each morning, and even some evenings, many of the young people, as well as the elderly, from the adjacent areas, come here to exercise.
- A permanent open-air gallery housing selected military hardware, fighter and bomber aircraft, canons, armored vehicles, and tanks.
- A gallery that will commemorate through photographs and texts memorable feats by defence personnel.
- A gallery that will deal with the birth of Bangladesh from East Pakistan and
the unconditional surrender of the Pakistani army to the Indian force at Dhaka.
