Eden Garden Stadium located in Kolkata is the oldest cricket stadium of India at present. Considered among one of the finest stadiums of the World, Eden Garden is also as the “Lords of Asia”. The stadium is the largest cricket stadium only after Melbourne Cricket Ground. It was in February 1987 that first One-Day International match was played in the stadium. However the club associated with the stadium, Eden Garden Cricket Club came into existence in 1864. The seating capacity of Stadium is 120,000 and is owned by the Cricket Association of Bengal. This magnificent lush green cricket stadium is bound up with the history of Indian Cricket. It is witness of many Indian cricket team wins and defeats. The first ever first-class match played in this huge ground was in 1917-18. As part of modernization Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium, a symbol of Kolkata, undergoes many changes. Covered stands were built all over the stadium along with the establishment of a modern Club House and pavilion. There are many cricket records made at this ground like Harbhajan Singh took a hat trick against the Kangaroos (2000/01) and the historic and heroic tone of 281 runs by V.V.S Laxman against the same country is the highest individual score at this stadium. However the stadium has come across some troubles regarding the anger of Kolkata cricket fans.
