Location:

The various locations during the Mumbai Marathon are Oberoi Turn, Wilson College, Jaslok Hospital, Rajani Patel Chowk and Lovegrove turn. There are several portable toilets on the route. 6 for the dream run, 30 for the half marathon and 60 for the full marathon.

How to reach:

Those people living in far off places can reach Mumbai by air, rail or road. Mumbai has airports at Sahar and Santacruz. After reaching Mumbai, the starting spot of the Mumbai Marathon can be reached by public buses, taxis, auto rickshaws and local trains.

Places of Interest:

The Mumbai Marathon is an international event held each year in January. This event was initially started in the year 2004. Upto the year 2007, there have been four thousand participants in the race. The Standard Chartered Bank sponsors this. The different race categories are Marathon, Half Marathon, Dream Run, Senior Citizens Run and Wheelchair event. The distances for these categories are 42.195 km, 21.097 km, 7 km, 5 km and 3.5 km respectively. In the years 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, the winners in the men’s category were Hendrick Ramaala, Julius Sugut, Rono Daniel and John Kelai respectively. In the women’s category, the winners were Violetta Urgya, Mulu Seboka and Xiao Shu Yang. In the year 2007, John Kelai recorded a timing of 2 hrs 12 minutes and 27 seconds, while Xiao Shu Yang completed the race in 2 hours 36 minutes 16 seconds. The first 30 finishers, both men and women, are given cash prizes. An Indian athlete, either man or woman, who is the fastest is given a luxury car.

Shopping:

After enjoying athletics at the Mumbai, Marathon one is free to shop around in Mumbai. There are several renowed places like the Chor Bazaar, Mutton Street and Zaveri Bazar. Crawford Market is known for flowers, fruits, meat and fish. Colaba and Flora Fountain areas are to be visited for ethnic artifacts and departmental stores. In the Fashion street, a new summer wardrobe can be bought. On the Muhammed Ali road Itar, embroidery and Zari work as well as artifacts and souvenirs can be bought.
