The Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Cricket Association in South Mumbai built Mumbai near the Churchgate station. This is the largest cricket stadium in the city of Mumbai in India. It took six months to build it. It was completed in 1975 and hosted the last test between India and the West Indies.

In the year 1995, the stadium was upgraded and lights were added to enable play during the night. The major gates to the ground are called Polly Umrigar gate and Vinoo Mankad gate. The names of the stands are after popular cricketers from Mumbai. The West Stand is called the Vijay Merchant stand. The East Upper Stand is called the Sunil Gavaskar Stand. The North Stand is called as Sachin Tendulkar Stand. The two ends are called as the Garware Pavilion End and the Tate End. The stadium has seen the great innings of Gavaskar’s 205 and Kalicharran’s 187. So, the spectators can always be eager to watch mammoth innings from veteran players.
