Festival and events constitute an integral part of life in Mumbai. The colorful Mumbai festivals fill the heart with ecstasy and entertainment. There are processions, prayers, songs, dances and relishes throughout Mumbai during festivals. Homes, temples and shops are beautifully decorated during festivals.

Ganesh Chaturthi or the birth anniversary of the god of knowledge and prosperity Ganesha is celebrated on the fourth day of Bhadra (August or September). Observed for a whole week, Ganesha, the elephant headed god is worshipped in quite extended set up in Mumbai. A huge parade is commissioned on the last day of the fiesta when the idols of Ganesha are engrossed in the sea. The chants, devotional, songs and dances fill the environment with heightened enthusiasm.

Holi or the festival of colors is notable for its great passion in Mumbai. Colors and fireworks are attributes by which holi is remembered in Mumbai and in the rest of the country. The festival is followed by coating the houses with fresh color, sprinkling of the color by the people, burning the effigy of Holika, fireworks, songs and dances, festive foods and more. Diwali in Mumbai like the rest of India is earmarked with the oil lamps and fireworks.

Gudi Padava is the New Year festival in Mumbai.The festival is fêted all over Maharashtra with decoration activities. A brass goblet over a silk cloth tied to a pole is erected and worshipped. Janmashtami is celebrated in August or September as the birthday of Lord Krishna. In Mumbai the festival is celebrated with the practice of pot breaking by human pyramids.

Mumbai also hosts various events related to film, business, trade and tourism. Business trade fairs like Furniture & Furnishings Fair, Intermachinery India, CHEMEXPO Fair, CS Cinema India Expo and various food festivals are organized. To add it, the Bollywood holds its glittering film award ceremonies and onstage performances by cinestars.
