Mumbai Port is the busiest port in India. Being the biggest and most important port in India, Mumbai harbor is the nerve center of sea transportation of the country. Since the British advent to India, it is considered as the gateway to India.
Mumbai has two ports ,Mumbai Harbour and Jawaharlal Neheru port. Mumbai Harbor is the at southern tip of the Ulhas River estuary.The historical island of Elephanta is one of the six islands that lie in the harbour. The Gateway of India is the most important tourist spot near the harbor and its jetty for Elephanta is always overcrowded. The INS Vikrant maritime museum lies near the harbor. Mangrove forests near eastern shores of the harbour provide a rich habitat for wildlife.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port lies to the east on the city of Mumbai at Nhavh Sheva. Crude petroleum products are handled from four platforms at the port. Fro here you can avail of daily ferry service to Goa and other parts of India as well as Gateway of India.
