The Bombay Natural History Museum, Mumbai was a giant step towards research and study of Natural History. The Bombay Natural History Museum, Mumbai was founded in the year 1883 . This society was founded with the interest of exchanging notes and observations on natural history and exhibiting interesting specimens. This society is a Non-governmental Organization . It is the largest in the subcontinent, which is wholly devoted to the conservation of nature and natural resources, education and research in natural history. This task is faithfully done with the help of members in over 30 countries all around the world . The motto of this society is conservation must be based on scientific research. This was the principle of the late president of The Bombay Natural History Museum, Mumbai , and Dr. Salim Ali.
The existence of the Bombay Natural History Museum:
The Bombay Natural History Museum, Mumbai exists for almost 120 years and is consistent in following its mission statement. It is completely involved in the conservation and protection of the environment natural wealth, and sustainable use of natural resources for a balanced and healthy development for future generations in India. To preserve the natural beauty and common interest for the enthusiastic people only, the entry is restricted to the members or only the authorized persons from various different elite groups of the various curriculum of the nature's study. It is not open to the general public for any reason. This society hosts many events like the publications of its own journal- the Journal of Bombay Natural History Society, regular newsletters and books on Indian animals, birds and nature . The exhibits in this museum include artificial replicas and specimens of vertebrates and insects, mammals, birds, reptiles amphibians and fishes. The unique characteristic is that this is all in context with the Indian natural habitats and not a single one from outside country.
