Location

Goregaon Suburb, Mumbai is located on the western part of the city. The place is positioned on the either side of the western railway line. Western Express Highway on one side and the Linking Road on the other side cover it from both the sides. Goregaon has got a railway station of its own. The railway station receives the local train plying in the city at regular interval. Thus the place is very accessible from all the parts of the city. Apart from the local there other means of transport like city buses and taxis connecting the place to the other parts of the city.

Development of the locality

The place is named after a famous politically active family called Gore family who were among the primary residents of the locality. Goregaon Suburb, Mumbai till the late 1970s was not a popular choice among the residents of the city. The Government of Maharashtra took the first step of development in the locality by taking over the prime piece of land that was the Mango and Guava Plantation owned by Topiwala Desai family. The Government of Maharashtra then passed over the piece of land to Maharashtra Housing Board for further development. The housing boom during the 1980s witnessed many of the housing societies springing up in the locality. The population of the locality got a boost with Aarey Milk Colony lending its expertise for the development of the locality.

Tourist attraction of the locality

Goregaon Suburb, Mumbai is basically a residential area and thus is mainly captured by housing societies. But the glamour quotient of the city is maintained by this locality. The two main studios of the Hindi Film Industry, Filmistan and Film City are situated here. The Indian Film Industry churning out the maximum number of films in a year in the whole world makes this place a major tourist attraction.
