The economic capital of India, Mumbai is located on the shores of the Arabian Sea. There are around seven islands located in the periphery of Mumbai. Oyster Island is one of the islands in Mumbai that has been the center of attraction from the time it is into existence. The Island is famous for the beautiful view it gives of the Arabian Sea. The mighty sea and the gutsy sea breeze is a rare combination that people experience on this island.

Location

Oyster Island, Mumbai is located on the southern part of Mumbai. It is a part of the Mumbai harbor. This place is accessible from the shores near Gateway of India. There are several ferries and motorboats plying from the shores till the island. The breathtaking journey through the sea till the island leaves people spell bound. Due to the strategic location of the Island it was occupied by the Indian Navy to carry out their defense program.

Attraction of the Island

Oyster Island, Mumbai was captured by the Indian Navy because of its positioning on the sea. The Indian Navy fortified the whole Island and used it as a museum to showcase the might of the army. The Naval Museum was a great point of attraction for the public as it demonstrated various aspects of the Indian Navy. The museum contained several weapons used by the Navy. It also contained several other elements that project the might of the defense service of our country. The island was later on taken over by the Government of the State of Maharashtra. The state government then planned to turn the island for the ground of anchorage of the ship INS Vikrant. This ship was one of the wonders of the Indian Naval Services but with it growing old it was decommissioned and permanently stationed at the Oyster Island, Mumbai . In the recent times the state government maintained the heritage of the island and restructured the ship to turn it into a Naval Museum. The island with the museum is again seeing people flocking to take an insight into our defense system.
