The district of Thane lies in the Northern part of Maharashtra in India. The place got its name from the river Thana that flows right through the district. Thane is located within the close vicinity of Mumbai. The suburbs that lie in proximity to Thane are Navi Mumbai, Kalyan, Dombivli, Mira-Bhayander, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Dahanu, Wada, and Vasai-Virar. There are 13 divisions or Talukas in Thane. The western part of the Thane that forms the coastal region Arabian Sea is mostly populated by the Kolis and Gujratis. There is a considerable population of Warli tribes in the Northern and Eastern parts of Thane. Thane secured a prominent place in both the Tourism and Political maps of India since the British government laid the First Railway tracks in India here from Mumbai in the year 1853. Thane is also well known for its lakes and Industries. There is a wide spectrum of products that are being manufactured here.

Thane is approximately located at a distance of 30 Kms from Mumbai. The city lies to the North Eastern side of Mumbai on the western coast of Mumbai. Thane forms to be a junction of Local trains that heads towards Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The weather of Thane is typical coastal sultry and Humid. Most parts of Thane lies in the plain at the sea level. The average rainfall of Thane records from 1500 mm to 2000 mm. The place experiences the onset of the monsoon in the month of June and experiences monsoon till the end of September. The average temperature recorded in Thane varies from 25 to 37 degrees.

The Panchpakhadi area is remarkable in this regard for having a wide spectrum of restaurants, ice cream parlors, cake shops, cafes and snacks joints. A number of malls are also sprouting up in Thane in the recent time that are worth visiting.
