The Venetian Gothic Bombay University, Mumbai is located adjacent to the High Court on Bhaurao Patil Road. It has a Gothic Clock that is 260 feet in height. It is decorated with oriental figures. The English architect Sir Gilbert Scott designed the buildings of the University. The Cotton King, Premchand Roychand, funded the library and Rajabai Clock Tower. Sir Cowasji Jehangir funded the convocation hall.

The Bombay University, Mumbai is not fixed to one location but is spread over the whole city of Mumbai and four coastal districts of Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. The initial campus is in Fort and has the administrative section of the university. Its style of architecture is a Gothic one and library houses many original manuscripts. The Kalina campus is situated at Kalina in Santacruz. It houses the Jawaharlal Nehru Library, which is the largest library in Mumbai. It has an area of 230 acres, out of which most of the area is kept for development of future fields. There are many science departments like Biotechnology, Physics, Information Technology, Mathematics and many humanities and language departments at the masters and doctoral stages. Some other departments, which are present, are called the Mumbai University of Chemical Technology, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research . The department of Medicine is spread across several major hospitals like Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay Hospital and G.S. Medical College of the University of Mumbai. St. Xavier's college was the first degree-granting college linked with this University.
Shopping:
Although there is nothing to shop in the Bombay University, Mumbai itself, there are several spots around the University, which provide and excellent ambience for shopping. At Chor Bazaar, there is a sizable collection of antiques, jewellery, wooden articles, leather ware and some other items. Crawford market is popular for flowers, fruits, meat and fish. The Mereweather Road behind the Taj Mahal Hotel has a very good collection of colorful and innovative carpets. The range of products available here is extensive, exclusive and expensive. The Central Cottage Industries Emporium and Khadi Village Industries Emporium have fixed price tags and the products are very authentic and of highest quality.
