Formerly known as Bombay, Current Mumbai is a major metropolitan city of India and is the state capital of Maharashtra. It never gets too cold and the extremes of both heat and cold remains within 30 degrees. Mainly there are four seasons in Mumbai. They include the summer, winter, monsoon and the withdrawal season. January remains the coolest month of the year and the hottest months are the May and June. During this two months the heat and humidity becomes unbearable. Generally the monsoons hit the city by the first week of June. During the monsoons cool sea breezes gives respite from the heat and humidity. However most of the times the first monsoon showers are preceded by a strong dust storm.

The best time to visit Mumbai:

It is best to avoid the monsoon months that start from June to September while planning a trip to Mumbai. During this time Mumbai becomes a big overflowing pothole. Generally the best time when to go to Mumbai is between October to April. During this time the air remains very pleasant and the relative humidity in the air becomes low. In the months of August and September Mumbai celebrates its biggest festival the Ganesh Chaturthi. This festival is celebrated to honor the Elephant headed God called Ganesha who is a very revered and benign god in the Hindu mythology. The event is worth watching as huge processions carrying massive idols of the divine figures are carried to the sea beaches where they are submerged. The event is a spectacle of true Indian culture that no one should miss.
