Mysore, the very name spells for three M's, Myth, Majesty and Marvel. The city with its century-old heritage of royalty, has witnessed the rise and fall of many empires. It was the capital of the renowned Wodeyar dynasty, Mysore boasts of the palaces and temples of architectural grandeur and justifiably known as the 'City of Palaces'. Apart from the well known Mysore Palace, Jaganmohan Palace, Vasantha Mahal, Mysore is another exquisite piece of architecture which provides delight to the eyes of the visitors . Vasantha Mahal, Mysore is an important landmark among the several spots of sightseeing in Mysore . It was built in 1842 in the then ruler of Wodeyar Dynasty. The palace stands on sprawling 36 acre landscape and is nestled amidst lush green ambiance. Though it was originally built for pleasure, the palace was later turned into a special school for the erstwhile Princes. An edifice of imposing expanse the uniqueness of the main facade of the palace is its protruding front portions made of wrought-iron. The three story structure was made keeping in view the comfort and grandeur of the royal descendants. The first thing you witness entering the palace, is the long curving veranda. The central veranda stretches its wings to connect it with the other parts of the building. The huge, oval-shaped hall that you come across next perpetuates into your mind the royal extravaganza of dining and unwinding. The same pattern of structure is repeated in the first and third floor. The columns are reminiscent of Tuscan style architecture and the whole palace has a unique sense of modernity and simplicity very distinguished from other palaces in Mysore. The Vasantha Mahal of Mysore was converted into a grand hotel later on. But the hotel is now closed. The tourists, who are interested to spend a day feeling a different kind of heritage in Mysore, can visit Vasantha Mahal in Mysore, Karnataka.
