Located 162 kilometers south of Tamil Nadu's capital of Chennai, Pondicherry is
a small but remarkable Union Territory of India. Still quite undiscovered by tourists,
much of the beauty of the territory originates from mystery and enchantment. Because
of its French colonial past, Pondicherry is often referred to as 'A little piece
of Medieval France in India'. As much French, as Indian in essence, Pondicherry

Auroville. Also called the 'City of Dawn', its construction began in the year
1968; but 30 years on, and the Auroville remained unfinished. A remnant of the

world wide along with 23 other Indian states.
The Arikamedu in Pondicherry is a reputed archeological site in the territory.
It was at the Arikamedu that Wheeler began an excavation in the 1940s. From
here has been unearthed several Roman artifacts. The area was said to be a famed
port where Romans came to trade at. It was also an area where fishing and bread
making made up the chief occupation of the people.
The Chunnambar is basically a beach in Pondicherry. Known for its mesmerizing
sunsets, the Chunnambar Beach allows other adventurous activities such as boating,
tree house living, trekking and swimming.
