Alleppey, India is often referred to as the Venice of the East because of the water bodies surrounding it. The splendid beauty of the water bodies like canals, backwaters, beaches and lagoons has raised the place to the status of nature's gift to the human being. How to reach The town has not got an airport of its own thus reach the place by airplane one has to get down at the airport in Cochin. However there is a railway station that links the town to some of the major cities like Cochin and Trivandrum. Alleppey, India is separated by 160 kms from Trivandrum and it is just 70 kms away from Cochin. The town is also well connected by the roadways and thus it can also be reached through roads from some nearby major city. It is located 14 kms away from the town. It is the shrine of Lord Krishna and is well known for its architectural wonders. The other attraction of the place is the milk porridge that is offered to the god in the temple. - Karumadikuttan - this is a village 3 kms away from the town. It is famous for the black marble granite statue of Lord Buddha built around the 10th century. There are many legendary stories associated with this statue. - Champakulam - this is a waterlogged village situated beside the town. It has quite a few tourist spots like the Angadi market, St. Mary Church and the snake boats. The town of Alleppey has added great value to the tourism of India by pulling huge amount of crowd every year.
