Trivandrum, India is also called Thiruvananthapuram. Its location is on the South Western trip of India. It has Arabian Sea on the West and Tamil Nadu on the East.
How to reach:
Thiruvananthapuram is well connected by road to all town and cities. Also there is a direct train service to all the major towns in Kerala and also the major cities in India. The Thiruvananthapuram international airport is situated only 6 kms from the city.
Places of Interest:
There are several places which are notable.
Kovalam Beach - This beach is 16 kms away from the city. It consists of 3 adjacent crescent beaches. The beach most to the south is the most favorite one and is called the Lighthouse beach.
Padmanabha Swamy Temple - This is a temple of Lord Vishnu. The God is resting on anantha, the serpent. It is a mixture of the Kerala and Dravidian styles of architecture. There are Mural Paintings and Stone carvings. This is one of the 108 sacred temples in India.
Kuthiramalika Palace Museum - This place was built by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma, the king of Travancore. There are several paintings and rare collections of the royal family. There are beautiful wooden carvings.
The Napier Museum - Various bronze idols, ancient ornaments, ivory carvings, a temple chariot, and artifacts can be seen in this museum. This indo-saracenic structure has a natural air-conditioning system.
Sree Chitbra Art Gallery - This is located near the Napier museum. There are several paintings of Svetlova, Nicholas Roerich and Raja Ravi Verma. Works from the Tanjore, Mughal and Rajput schools of Art in India can also be seen.
Thiruvallam is only 10 kms away from this place. It is famous for Canoe rides. Aruvikkara Dam is 16 kms away from Thiruvananthapuram. This is on the banks of the Karamana River. There is a Durga temple here. Near it is a stream full of fish. These swim close to the shore anticipating food by the visitors. Kanyakumari is also close by. It is a point where the three seas meet.

Trivandrum, India is famous for metal work. Such a rich tradition of art and crafts are worth shopping. Coir products, Wood carving, Horn carving, Snake boats and Kath kali masks are some of the items which may be bought.
