The Bedsa Caves in Pune forms an important part of Excursions near by Pune . Located close to the Kamshet Railway Station in the interior parts of the village of Bedsa, the caves provide you a retreat from the bustling city life. There are a number of water cisterns depicted on the façade with inscriptions over them. According to this inscription, this system of water cisterns was introduced by the Samadinaka, the princess of Mandavi who made this facility for the benefit of the monks and other Buddhist disciples who stayed there. The Viharas in the Bedsa Caves in Pune have 9 cells. In addition to it, there are a couple of side cells more. It is interesting to note that one of the bigger cells contain a non Buddhist deity called the Yamai. This deity was worshipped by the Kolis . It is a ritual here that a palanquin, also known as the palki, ascends up to the shrine of Yamai. The Bedsa Caves in Pune is a wonderful place to visit.
